Welcome to the HMA Journal

By consistently reexamining the way we interact with our students, we give ourselves permission to acknowledge the flaws in our current methods, and then improve.

Jane and I are not just musicians; we're writers. Chronically so. Irreparably so. The sort of writers who find joy in co-authoring nonsensical literature we will share with zero souls but our own--just for the laughs.

It occurred to us that to write about music may:

  1. Scratch an itch we didn't know desperately wanted attention, and
  2. Offer useful insights into teaching methods, practice advice, and miscellaneous profound reflections on our lives as music teachers.

It will also undoubtedly progress our competency as teachers. By consistently reexamining the way we interact with our students, we give ourselves permission to acknowledge the flaws in our current methods, and then improve.
